St. John of the Cross Makambe Mission
Overview
St John Makambe was established by Rt Rev Bishop Michael. D Bhasera on the 16th of December 2021. St John Makambe opened with twelve functional outstations. Makambe is an off-shoot of Chiredzi Mission and it used to be served by the priests from Chiredzi, Good shepherd and at one time it was served by the priests from Rutenga Mission.
The first Priest-in-charge was Rev Fr James Munyanyi assited by the late Rev Fr Peter Mudhanganyi. Later on Rev Fr Muyambo came together with Rev Fr T Sibanda, who stayed for a short time and replaced by Rev Fr Francis U Chikutuma.
The Holy Cross Sisters were assigned to the Mission to run the primary, secondary school and a clinic. The pioneering sisters were Sr Loice Mutuda, Sr Noster Musinachirevo, Sr Alice Mahlasela, Sr Constancia Torevei and Sr Wadzanai Makonese.
