Masvingo Diocese celebrates Feast of the Nativity of Mary

MASVINGO: Holding a prayerful procession from St DonBosco Primary School to St DonBosco Parish in the Catholic Diocese of Masvingo, parishioners gathered to celebrate the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one of the most cherished feast days in the church calendar.

The mass to celebrate the important feast in the Church’s liturgical year was celebrated by the Rt. Rev. Bishop Raymond Mupandasekwa.

Bishop Mupa spoke about the significance of Mary’s in the divine plan of salvation and how she is our protector.

“Today we celebrate not just the birth of Mary,” he said in his homily, “but the hope she brings to the world. Her ‘yes’ to God continues to echo through history, reminding us all to live with humility, faith, and love,” Bishop Mupandasekwa said.

“Mary was also made our protector when the Lord mentioned in the time of Adam and Eve that while attacked by a snake, a woman will kill that snake. That is the work of our Mother Mary, to protect us,” added Bishop Mupandasekwa.

Bishop Mupandasekwa also shared a miracle of how one elderly women was saved after resorting to reciting the Rosary.

“I know a lady, Mbuya Chigumira. She testified that following the death of her husband, she often heard mysterious sounds at her Bikita homestead.

“She decided to move from Bikita to Gokwe but the problem persisted. She told me that all that stopped the day she started reciting the Rosary asking Mother Mary for protection,” he further said.

The feast of the nativity of Mary which is a celebration of her birthday is celebrated every year on the 8th of September.

For many, the Feast of the Nativity of Mary marks a spiritual and emotional high point in the liturgical year.

On the 8th of December , the urban parishes, St Theresa Rujeko, Ss Peter and Paul Cathedral and St DonBosco, will again meet and have a procession celebrating the Immaculate Conception of Mary.
