Gokomere High School

Historical Background

Gokomere is a Catholic and mixed High School located about 17 km from Masvingo, along the Harare road. From the road junction, the school is 1km to the East. It was founded in July 1898 as a centre for vocational training and Sunday school. Secondary education started in 1910 under the leadership of the Jesuit Fathers. The Bethlehem missionaries took over in 1940. Gokomere mission became the centre of expansion in Masvingo Province with educational institutions like Mukaro, Berejena, St Antony’s and Mutero owing their establishment to Gokomere Mission.

Gokomere High School has a current student population of 1325 boarders coming from all provinces of Zimbabwe with negligible figures coming from neighboring countries like South Africa, Zambia Malawi and Botswana.
