Subsidiarity and Participation

The principle of subsidiarity teaches that decisions should be taken at the level closest to the people affected, whenever possible. Larger bodies, including the state, should support families and local communities rather than replace them.

Participation means that every person has the right and the duty to take part in the life of society: in the family, the parish, the village, the workplace and the nation. Everyone should have a voice in decisions that affect their lives.

Living it
