Solidarity

Solidarity means recognising that we are one human family. It is “a firm and persevering determination to commit oneself to the common good,” because we are all truly responsible for all (St John Paul II, Sollicitudo Rei Socialis, 38).

Solidarity goes beyond feelings of pity. It calls us to stand with those who suffer, to share our resources, and to work for structures that are just. In Africa it echoes the spirit of ubuntu: “I am because we are.”

Living it

  • Support Caritas and diocesan relief efforts after droughts, storms and other disasters.
  • Welcome strangers, refugees and migrants.
  • Pray and act for peace in our communities and the world.
