Avhunga Secondary School
Historical Background
Avhunga is a Catholic Secondary school located 127 km from Masvingo along the Beitbridge road. From the junction, the school is 100m to the East. It was established in the year 2003. People gathered to deliberate on the establishment of a secondary school under a Mukamba tree and agreed that the school be established at a farm house. The community leadership then approached the District Education Officer and the school was granted by the Ministry of Education. The name Avhunga was adopted which is a name of a nearby mountain. The school was opened as a council school and was handed over to the Roman Catholic-Masvingo Diocese in December 2007. On its opening the school was established at the farm house and teachers were housed there.
