St. James Chivamba Mission

Overview

St James Chivamba Mission was canonically established on the 18th of July 2015 by the Rt. Rev. Bishop Michael D Bhasera in the year of consecrated life. It was established from St Anthony Mission which is situated in Zaka District Masvingo Province in Zimbabwe. It is located along Mashoko road about 17km from Zaka.

St James Chivamba Mission has a population of about 1300 Catholics with 16 centres namely: St James, St Peters Tovani, St Theresa, St Matthew, Maraire, Museki, Chinorumba, Madondo, Nhema, Rusere, Gumbu, Mukwirimba, Mandhloro, Chigwagwa, Mbuyamaswa and St John Paul. There are two catholic institutions at the mission namely St James Chivamba Primary and St James Chivamba Secondary School.

Rev Fr Peter Chimombe was appointed the first Priest in Charge of St James from July 2015 to February 2024. He stayed at the mission for 7 years 8months and was then transferred to another mission. Rev Fr James Magadzire was appointed as the Priest in Charge of St James Chivamba Mission on the 19th of February 2024 up to date.
