Silveira High School

Historical Background

Silveira High is a well- established Catholic Mission School, about 110 km east of Masvingo. The first site of Silveira Mission was at Muvhuti, where it was established from Driefontein. This is believed to be in 1930. The founder of the Mission was Father Witnell, a Jesuit Priest, who worked hard for the Mission to be at its present site. In 1967 Silveira High School was opened under the headship of Fr. Fischer.

The aims and functions of the Catholic Church in building Silveira High School were twofold, i.e.
(1) to Educate and

(2) to Evangelize.

Thus the school began to operate in the Eastern side of the country spreading its wings throughout the whole country of Zimbabwe and even beyond. It continues striving to reach a perfect Catholic identity. The high school started with only 67 pupils for two form one classes. Silveira high school has a current student population of 973 learners who come from all over Zimbabwe and beyond the borders.
