Overview

  • Berejena secondary school was first established on 2 August 1954 in Berejena village under the headman Makovere.
  • Berejena mission clinic was established in 1958 upon change of the mission site to the present data one.
  • Berejena mission clinic was first established in the now residence of the ancillary staff house which served as clinic as well as the residence for the priests.
  • The clinic was later moved to the present site in 1963 upon realizing the potential of expanding institution.
  • The first clinic stuff were Sr Maya, Sr Magrath Akerman, Brother Walter, Nurse Paradza and Nurse Mugabe/Muzenda.
  • It is established that doctors from Dreifontein Mission in Gweru Diocese used to travel by plane to save berejena mission clinic on monthly basis.
  • There was a shift of operation since 1997, when the doctors who were resident at Matibi mission hospital took over the responsibility of serving Berejena Mission Clinic.

Catchment Area

  • Berejena mission clinic has a wider catchment area which covers the political and civil administrative wards 19, 21, 22 and 32.
  • The wards constitute a total compliment of 76 Villages with an estimated population of 15000(+-)

Operational Systems

  • Doctors are no longer coming to attend the patients and clinic resorts to referring complications to hospitals using pastoral vehicle.
  • EPI integrated services and other vital clinic activities are done using the pastoral vehicle.
  • The clinic admits minor cases for observations and mothers awaiting delivery.
  • The clinic serves school children from the nine (9) surrounding schools in the catchment which include Berejena High school (Boarding) and Berejena Primary School.
