Historical Background

Bondolfi Teachers’ College is a Catholic Institution offering ECD and General Teacher Education at Diploma level. It is in the Diocese of Masvingo 30km to the South of Masvingo city. The Teacher Education programmes started in 1963. Bondolfi Mission where the college exists was established in 1951 and named after Father Bondolfi, founder of Bethlehem Missionary Society (SMB) congregation. In January 1982 Bondolfi Teachers’ College became an associate college of The University of Zimbabwe.

College started at Gokomere in 1963 and relocated to the present Bondolfi Mission to create an environment for mature and professional teacher trainees. It offered PTH starting with 60 male students for RJC graduates. In 1968 we had our first T3 three year group. In 1979 College closed because of the liberation war and housed at the United College of Education in Bulawayo. In 1980 the four year programme of training (1st and 3rd Year in college and 2nd and 4th Year on T.P.) was introduced. 2005 saw the introduction E.CD and the beginning of the 2-5-2 general programme. Currently we have the 3-3-3 programme of training reintroduced in 2019.In 2007 thee post of Rector was introduced with the first incumbent being The Very Reverend Fr. W. Nyatsanza.
